Dudley (Joseph) is born in Roxbury.

The son of Gov. Thomas and Catherine (Dighton) Dudley, Joseph Dudley graduates from Harvard College, and marries Rebecca Tyng in 1668. Dudley serves as one of two commissioners to England from the United Colonies (1677-81), president of the Council, governor of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and the King’s Province (1686-1689). Arrested and imprisoned for 10 months, he returns to England for several years. After returning to Massachusetts, Dudley serves as governor of the Province of Massachusetts Bay (1702-1715). He dies in Roxbury in 1720.
